Frequently Asked Questions

Proper testing will usually answer the question of whether or not you have a wheat allergy or gluten intolerance.  With Lily we had her Pediatrician send in a request for a blood test to see if she had the markers for a Wheat Allergy.  The test can only give you a yes or not answer but it cannot tell you if it is actually Celiac’s Disease, a Gluten Sensitivity, or Gluten Intolerance.  When she tested positive for the markers we had to schedule a Biopsy to know the actual diagnosis.

The testing is accurate in the sense that the result is correct for your situation.  But if you aren’t eating gluten they you can’t detect a gluten intolerance or celiac disease.  Our doctor recommended Lily do a 30-day challenge of eating gluten daily.  This would give the biopsy the best chance of diagnosing her correctly.

This varies from person to person.  For some it takes days; for others it takes months.  For Lily, it really only took a couple days because eating Gluten made he so sick the relief was pretty instant with a few symptoms (head aches, joint pain, exhaustion) but her constipation did take weeks to finally work itself out.
